Annual Cooking Competition, taking place during the Group's Annual General Meeting in May. Run as a Patrol competition, traditionally a selection of ingredients have been available on the evening and the patrols have concocted their own masterpieces under camping conditions. 1 hours cooking time is allowed and extra points are awarded to those using open fires. Most Patrols prepare decorative menus and use whatever table decorations they can get their hands on. In 2001 the rules were changed and each patrol was given a set budget to prepare a 3 course meal, allowing complete freedom for their choice of menu. The winners are presented with a large wooden spoon trophy.

Summer Camp Competitions, taking place throughout the Troop summer camp each July / August. The Scouts camp in Patrol tents and a number of inter-patrol competitions are run during the week as follows:
Summer Camp Patrol Competition. Throughout
the week long camp a running score is kept for various aspects of each Patrols
performance. These include site layout, camp gadgets, full kit and site
inspections and the results of the Cooking Competition,
Assault Course and Camp Fire Entertainment. The
results of the competition are announced at the final flag down, just prior to
leaving camp for the journey home. See results below.
Summer Camp Cooking Competition. The
Patrols draw straws to select a Leader each to attend the meal produced at the
end of the competition. They are given a choice of ingredients and produce a
full 3 course meal on open fires (and the odd gas burner) for the whole Patrol
and their guest. In the best of traditions, the guest always brings the drinks!
Extra points are given for interesting table conversation and service. See
results below.
Summer Camp Assault Course. Introduced
into the programme in 1999, the assault course and shooting competition has
become one of the most talked about parts of the camp. The obstacles and tasks
are dependant upon the site but have included an aerial runway, crossing rivers
by canoe and rope bridge, balancing on poles, shooting and lots of water! See
results below.
Summer Camp Entertainment.
The last night of summer camp is marked with a party followed by a rather large
camp fire. Once assembled, each Patrol puts on as many camp fire stunts,
sketches and songs as they can, providing a truly enjoyable and very amusing end
to the day. Marks are awarded by the number of "thumbs up" from the
audience. The event is also used to gain the Entertainers badge. See
results below.
